Our Resident Services Department in Washington, D.C. collaborated with Georgetown University to provide a Reading Program for young residents in grades K-6 at Golden Rule Apartments this past school year. The one-hour program was held twice a week throughout the course of the school year. Not only did youth residents strengthen their reading skills, but they also developed a positive relationship with their assigned Georgetown students, and were exposed to Georgetown’s campus.

In a recent parent survey, 90% of parents stated they have seen improvements in their child’s reading skills and 95% of parents feel their child benefited from the program.
