Lock all windows to make a tighter seal to keep cold air out.

Close all your window shades at night to keep warm air in and cold air out.

Turn off the lights when leaving a room.

In winter, wear sweaters and shoes or slippers around the house and turn the thermostat down to the lowest comfortable temperature.

In summer, dress lightly and set the thermostat at the highest comfortable temperature. Only run the air conditioner on extremely hot days.

Do not use supplemental heating appliances such as space heaters. They usually are less efficient than the normal heating system in your apartment.

Put a rolled up towel on the floor in front of doors to the outside to stop drafts.

Only run the washer and dryer with full loads.
