Some tips for saving energy in your apartment:
- Lock all windows to make a tighter seal to keep cold air out.
- Close all your window shades at night to keep warm air in and cold air out.
- Turn off the lights when leaving a room.
- In winter, wear sweaters and shoes or slippers around the house and turn the thermostat down to the lowest comfortable temperature.
- In summer, dress lightly and set the thermostat at the highest comfortable temperature. Only run the air conditioner on extremely hot days.
- Do not use supplemental heating appliances such as space heaters. They usually are less efficient than the normal heating system in your apartment.
- Put a rolled up towel on the floor in front of doors to the outside to stop drafts.
- Only run the washer and dryer with full loads.
